Bluejeans have been aquired by Verizon after around a year of discussions between the two businesses. It would seem the massive surge in use of unified communication tools since the coronavirus pandemic helped to value Bluejeans at around $400 million.
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out given Zoom’s hugely viral success recently & enterprise level video-chat becoming a communication trend which is likley here to stay.
How these UC services monetise, resolve security concerns, and continue to compete with each other is a new horizon in the world of video conferencing.
Bluejeans have a Gateway service which is used by other companies to provide a bridging service to Microsoft Teams via a Microsoft-certified, cloud video interop (CVI) solution. This allows providers to connect customers with Cisco, Poly, Starleaf and Lifesize endpoints in to Microsoft Teams calls. So how these services may be affected will be a concern for some, whilst bringing potential opportunities for both Verizon and for others.
